Marguerite and Ike Chism Scholarship

Marguerite Chism was born in Azle, Tarrant County, Texas on July 23, 1911 and moved with her family to Jones County in 1915 where they lived near Stamford in the Sunny Side Community. She lived there and in Stamford until she married I.M. Chism of Albany on December 24, 1947. A graduate of Stamford High School in 1928, she received a degree from Hardin-Simmons University and taught school in Sunny Side, Stamford, and Albany for twenty years. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was in the Adult Ladies’ Sunday school teacher for forty years from 1956 – 1996. She was an active member of WMU and taught Mission Study for many years. She had been a member of Shackelford County Retired Teachers’ Association and gave many hours in support of the Volunteer Services Council at Abilene State School.
